Did you hear the news? Google is taking over the World, just kidding but looks like in the communication industry side they are inching their way to glory. First, their web browser that gave us a new set of eyes into the Internet world, and then came the Android phone and now IP phone called Google Voice.
To sign up you have to be invited, go to www.google.com/voice . I signed up couple of days ago and received my invitation yesterday. When I got the email, I was excited and immediately went onto signing up for the FREE (No cost for calls within USA) Service and phone number, except for International calls.
I went through whole bunch of phone number and pick the number I liked and set up call forwarding to my cell and home phone. I called my new number and set up greeting for my voice mail. Once done, I did some test by calling the number and as expected of Google, worked fine. I made some call via Google Voice webpage (only way to make call, I think) and worked great. Now that I had satisfied my curiosity of this new FREES Internet service, what am I going to use this for, hmmmmmm. I guess it would be great for business people or people who travel a lot that don’t want to rack up minutes on their cell phone. I wonder a normal guy like me need one, I have a landline home phone and a cell phone with family plan that I can’t even use half of the minutes I’m allocated. I can’t really come out with a good reason for it, so please help me convince myself why I need Google Voice. Here is an article about Google Voice usability but I don’t agree with some of the use. http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/14/google-voices-secret-weapon-number-portability/#comment-3051911
